I have mixed feelings on this one. I very much like the composition. But in order to slow the water the little leaves on the small plant are blurred. The B&W looks better than the color because the blur seems to blend better. Ideally I would prefer no blur on the leaves, but the river was...
I'm not really into video but I like to have some fun with my phone sometimes. On my most recent trip, I shot this. Like all inexperienced videographers I shot it vertical instead of horizontal. Guess that means I'll have to go back and do it right. :)
NOTE: If you click on the image the video...
As a general rule, I like fast shutters for big powerful waterfalls. I like slower shutters on streams, rivers, and smaller waterfalls. I like to nap when Yosemite goes cloudless. ;-)
I like this a lot. But with a sky like that I would prefer a wider more panoramic perspective. I didn’t see the less tight view you mentioned. In any event it is still a wonderful shot.
I actually toned down a few hot spots on the top of El Cap. Technically I don't think any are blown even though detail would be hard to find.
Out of laziness I am still using my perpetual license Lightroom 6. I own ON1 2018 RAW and need to learn it. Currently I use it for effects only.
I have gotten to where I tend to limit myself to 3 or 4 max and maybe even less. I'm happy if even one gets accepted. I've only had two ever accepted but both did win an honorable mention. So I now tell my friends I'm a "multi award winning photographer", but I can never say it with a straight...
Jim, you better hurry. Today is the deadline.
BTW, The B&W from Cathedral Beach that Frans critiqued won an honorable mention at last year's fair. The year before, they rejected it.
I get rather annoyed by the the fair competition, but still enter stuff. This year I actually entered 6 which...
Although this may look similar to the B&W I posted, there is an obvious difference. This was shot last year, the next morning after the B&W and after a night of rain. So it is a bit of a clearing storm if you will. While there were some early low clouds around the valley that morning, these...
Thanks Jim. I agree, more water would have been nice. And not to say it couldn't be better, but the runoff last spring was very large including some occasional flooding. There was minimal beach to shoot from and in the case of this shot I did want to give preference to the pattern in the clouds.
This is a beautiful scene. I see a little bit of cloud in the lower left, near the base of the trees. I would love to see this on the right kind of foggy day.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
