    Arrowleaf Balsamroot in the Tetons

They're only about 50% right now, so they'll be even denser at peak. There were a few meadows that were completely covered, but they also had tall conifers that competed with the Tetons for vertical interest. Maybe some year you'll have to venture out to the Tetons?

Why Did the Bear Cross the Road?

It was probably thinking, "Is that guy still there? Oh, good, he finally left, now I can go on with my day."

    Arrowleaf Balsamroot in the Tetons

Last year I was too late. Peak might be next week, then the Mules Ears will have their turn. There were some great atmospherics that I missed because I hadn't used my tilt-shift in a while & it was taking me forever to adjust it. By the time I got it, the entire valley was socked in & the...

    The Full Arch

It sure makes the Valley look small! What's that very bright highlight just right of center at the bottom?

    Evil with Fur

Good thing they didn't chew through something like your brake lines! Did you post something like hardware cloth around your new lines? Cute little destructive critters.

    All Day Buffet

Thanks, Jim. I carry bear spray for my longer walks in the woods, but since some neighbors have been charged on their properties & barely made it into their houses, I'm thinking I should always carry it now. In general, the moose just want to be left alone and shy away, but if it's a cow & her...

    All Day Buffet

I'm hoping that, if allowed to mature, the thorns will discourage the moose.

    A Little Scouting

Nice shape to the tree. Maybe shoot from closer/lower to eliminate the uninteresting foreground.

    All Day Buffet

I guess that were I a half-tone herbivore, I would spend all day foraging, too. This guy (different from the previous post, unless he grew something like 20% in a week) made 3 visits to my house & property yesterday. On the last one, my dog was hiding under the deck, barking as he passed not...

    Racoon Photos

Wonderful series & verse, Eric! Many years ago, a friend of mine (city boy who had just moved to the mountains) awoke to a lot of noise outside his kitchen. He went downstairs, stark naked, to investigate. A raccoon, of course, was the culprit. He took a broom and poked the bristle end at the...

Why New Plantings Have Serious Competition

It's kind of interesting: some of the neighbors are really into the moose while others really don't like them, think there are too many. 24 were introduced to Colorado in 1978 & 1979 from Utah & Wyoming. Some were moved around within Colorado and more transplanted 2005-2010 and by 2012 there...
