Sunsets here can be outrageous or subtle. When I was setting up for this one, I was disappointed because I was looking for outrageous. So, this one sat in my archives for many years. I am glad I didn't just discard it those many years ago.

I, like Ken, learned that these were called Intimate Landscapes. They were popularized by Eliot Porter in his books: In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World" and "Intimate Landscapes." Those books had a tremendous influence on my photography. Sand Mule's Ears, Coral Pink Sand Dunes...

Thanks so much, Alan. That place hasn't had a decent bloom since then. Each year all of the photographers in AZ look forward to a good year after heavy winter rains but it never happens.

So do I, Dan. That was the last super bloom at that place. It has been almost 25 years now.

While going through old boxes of slides, I found a box labeled Lost Dutchman. It contained the images from a roll of Velvia 50 I shot in 2000 when there was a super bloom. I have a few more I will post when I have a chance to process them.
