Last rainy day at Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Cloudy days are great for wildflower photography. Contrasts are low and saturation is high.

The Last 'Thursday Task' Without John.

I believe John will be back next week to again post the "Thursday's Task." Let's do roadkills this week. A roadkill is an image that was taken alongside the road where all you have to do is get out of the car and start photographing. Here is mine from the Snake River Overlook in Grand Teton...

Tell me your impressions of these two images.

I 'm not a B&W guy so I need your input for these two images which will hang on my son's wall. Any and all comments are welcome.

    Instead of Thursday's Task

I am sure we all miss John. But while John is gone let's do a salvage task. This is an image I took in 2017 that was way too dark by several f-stops. I was able to bring back the darkest areas, crop it to a better composition, and clone out some background distractions. Please add your...

    One Last Desert Bloom Image.

Just as I was getting ready to leave last Friday, the sun began to dapple the sides of the distant mountains. I was busy putting my equipment back in the car but, quicky pulled it out and set up one last shot. Fortunately, there was a decent composition nearby.

Rainy day at Anza Borrego Desert State Park

It was raining of and on during this morning. The soil was wet, and the clay was sticking to the bottom of my shoes. They weighed at least 5 lbs. apiece when I took them off. I didn't care because the photography was good that morning. The clouds in the sky were great and the colors were...

Anza Borrego Desert State Park Super Bloom, CA

I visited this state park Wednesday through Friday last week and the flowers were absolutely spectacular. Anyone wanting to go there should be there relatively soon because the flowers will start to decline from here on. Also don't go during the weekend because the place will be crawling with...

    Salvage Week 03/10/2024

This is an image I haven't posted before because I have had trouble deciding how much saturation I should allow. Nevertheless, this is what I have finally decided was okay. I backed off quite a bit. Was it enough or too much?

In the absence of John Holbrook this Thursday.

John will be gone for the next few weeks and there is no way I would attempt to duplicate what he does for "Thursday Task." But I thought it would be interesting to learn a little bit about the wonderful photographers on this site. How about posting an image of the very first photograph you...

    First Light at Shiprock, NM

A few years ago, I took some aerial images of Shiprock. This is one that I did not process at that time.

    Salvage Week - 03/03/2024

Please pile on with your salvaged images. This image didn't need as much work as some of the previous images. But I thought that the composition was nice, so I tried to make it pop a bit more. Original image. Final image. I took out the small Joshua tree along the right side of the main...

    Salvage Week - 02/25/2024

This is an image of Mesa Arch in Canyonlands. I was there in the early morning during the winter so there were almost no other photographers around. I under exposed the image accidently when I really wanted to overexpose it one stop. I never processed the image until now. Original image...

    Salvage Week 2-12-2024

I am getting this started a little late because I was down in Tucson photographing the Gem and Mineral Show. This time I chose an image of the Grand Canyon from Lipan Point that was underexposed. I cropped it processed it and changed the exposure to get the final image. Original Salvaged image

    Winged Wednesday 02/07/2024

Eric is out in Yellowstone freezing his butt off in order to take images of wildlife, so I have the duty to get this rolling this morning. We are at the letter "F" in our endeavor to put up birds with all of letters of the alphabet. So, add your images of birds with this letter starting any...

    Salvage Week - 02/05/2024

Sorry for the late start this week. Ebird alerts indicted that a rare Striped-back Oriole was at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve in the Pheonix area so my wife and I went down to try and capture it. We had success. Here is the image. Someone put the half orange on the branch to attract them...

    Salvage Week 01/28/2024 - 02/04/2024

It is time for new salvage images. Here is mine for this week. This is an image of two Great Egrets in breeding plumage on a nest. I decided that it might look better if some of the sticks protruding out in the upper part of the image would be removed. This makes the bodies look more...

    Salvage Week 1/21/2024 - 1/28/2024

This week I thought I would show you how I do the mineral images. Please pile on with your salvaged images. First, I set the mineral to be photographed on a stand and place it on a black piece of posterboard. I do this near a window for the ambient light and use either overhead light or side...
