Climbing Vesper Pk.

After a winter/spring recovering from a broken leg I finally got out for a good full day hike/climb yesterday up one of my favorite local mountains, Vesper Pk. I normally ski it at least once a year, but this time too much snow had melted on the lower mountain to make bringing the skis worth while so I substituted my big camera (Sony A7rII & 24-105mm). I was glad to have a few clouds for photos and to help keep me cool on the 4,200 ft. elevation gain.

I made it to the summit and was enjoying the mountain to myself when I heard a whoop nearby. I'd seen some tracks in the snow, but no people, so it took me a minute to figure out someone was climbing the north face just below me. I grabbed my camera and sat on the edge happily shooting 3 young guys from OR finish The Ragged Edge, which is a wonderful climb I did on my 60th B-day a few years ago. Made for a really enjoyable topper on the day.

Sperry Pk. from the road. The trail I took goes up the valley on the left. Vesper peak is behind.

The clouds blowing around made for very atmospheric photos.

Really awesome Jim. I am sure it felt great to get back out and up again.

Very nice series of shots, and it’s great that you were able to catch some climbers too!

Thanks for all the comments guys. Douglas, I broke my leg back-country skiing this winter. Luckily it was only a hairline in the top of my tibia, so I managed to self-rescue with a little help from my friends.

Here is another shot looking down at the last 2 climbers on the north face I just processed.

Wow Jim; great to hear you had such a good recovery. I'm also glad you didn't try a self-repair on the spot with a heated #8 aluminum screw and your pocketknife. : )

Fantastic captures along the way.

This one is my fave. Great view & the climbers make the story. Nicely done, both the shooting & climbing!
