After a winter/spring recovering from a broken leg I finally got out for a good full day hike/climb yesterday up one of my favorite local mountains, Vesper Pk. I normally ski it at least once a year, but this time too much snow had melted on the lower mountain to make bringing the skis worth while so I substituted my big camera (Sony A7rII & 24-105mm). I was glad to have a few clouds for photos and to help keep me cool on the 4,200 ft. elevation gain.
I made it to the summit and was enjoying the mountain to myself when I heard a whoop nearby. I'd seen some tracks in the snow, but no people, so it took me a minute to figure out someone was climbing the north face just below me. I grabbed my camera and sat on the edge happily shooting 3 young guys from OR finish The Ragged Edge, which is a wonderful climb I did on my 60th B-day a few years ago. Made for a really enjoyable topper on the day.
Sperry Pk. from the road. The trail I took goes up the valley on the left. Vesper peak is behind.
View down from the summit to the south.
Ross leading the last pitch.
The clouds blowing around made for very atmospheric photos.
