    Twelve-spotted Skimmer

Thanks for the tip! This camera's menu has more parameters for AF than I'm used to and I haven't learned them all yet - or how they work in combination. Makes sense that macro would require a different setup than birds. And switching from birds in foliage to birds in flight is another challenge...

    Twelve-spotted Skimmer

Thanks! It was a challenge to shoot this handheld from such a short distance, but feasible. If a bit painful :D I had to use manual focus for this shot because there are some autofocus issues I have yet to find a fix for. It sometimes fails to find the subject at close range, even when there is...

    Twelve-spotted Skimmer

Tested the Sony 400-800mm on this dragonfly today. I was about 3 yards away. It's surprising how narrow the depth of field at f/8, but then again it is 800mm. 800mm f/8 1/500s 800iso

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Of course! I did quite a bit of handheld shooting with the big lens yesterday and it delivers everything that was promised - very fast focus and excellent image stabilization. I wasn't prepared for how fast a mirrorless camera is, getting rid of the whole mechanical affair of flipping the...

    Of Fireflies and Stars

One of the first photos with my new Sony A7RIVa and Tamron 28-75, taken in our back yard last night. Definitely liking the low noise compared to the Canon 6D! This is a stack of 2 photos, each 13 seconds long at 2000 ISO. Quite pleased with the result. The fireflies are close to peaking over here!

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Very happy with my new gear 🙂 The telephoto is so heavy it needs its own strap...

    The Outhouse at Eureka Dunes

This is so cool, Jim. Great composition. That outhouse is just begging to be photographed! The fact that someone put a light out there cracks me up.

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Thanks to all for the input! The Metabones and MC-11 adapters do look like the best options, however thanks to Alan's convincing points I decided to take the plunge and order new lenses along with the new camera. I knew I would eventually upgrade lenses anyway so I just needed a little push to...

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Duly noted, thanks. That's interesting about the Sony sensors!

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Thank you @AlanLichty and @JimFox for your insight and thoughtful responses! This info is all helpful. I had a feeling I would eventually buy native lenses to go with whatever body I picked out, so this confirms it. I will mull over getting a converter to hold me over in the interim. @JimFox...

    Lens adapters? Upgrading/switching to Sony

Hi all, It's an exciting moment - I'm about to upgrade from the Canon 6D Mark II which has been my primary camera for 7 years. I had my sights set on the R5 until I looked at Sony's comparable cameras. The Sony A7R IVA is really appealing in terms of the quality for the price so that's likely...

    The Moon and Venus

While the title might suggest this belongs in the Astrophotography forum, seeing the photo should clarify the genre :) This was taken around 4:30am on Monday from our house in Vermont looking east as the dawn colors graced the sky. The moon and Venus were quite close to each other. I missed the...

Anyone capturing the Blood Moon Eclipse?

Nice captures, everyone! I wanted to shoot it but unfortunately was tired and went to bed an hour beforehand. Last thing I did was process a decent rainbow pano from earlier that evening...
