    Thanks Jim. :-)

    Beach Volleyball

Thanks Alan. I've tried the silhouette approach on other photos but this one really seemed to beg for it. I only wish the sky were a little more orange than yellow. It did get orange a few minute later.

    Beach Volleyball

Thanks Jim. It's really amazing to look at old photos and see what you can do with them today. Especially when they go back to your early days of learning.

    Beach Volleyball

I was searching for a photo the other day when I found a folder of some of my very first attempts to learn photography. It is from 2011. I had bought a couple of books, took my Canon point and shoot (with adjustable shutter and aperture) down to the beach and started practicing. I've made many...

    Climbing El Capitan

Jim, those are fantastic...other than they make me queezie just looking at them. :-)

    Is gray a Fall Color?

My fancy $30 app told me there was an 85% chance of color in the sky at Mono Lake for sunset. Turns out rain clouds blocked the color that would have been there. But then, I saw this. Wasn't sure if it was the second coming or just Kirk and Spock beaming down. Turns out it was neither...I think?

    Aspen with a Twist

I think the Aspen with a hitch in it's giddy-up makes for an interesting twist. Pun intended. I like these unique intimate shots. Good job Jim.

    Lumpy Land

Very nice Alan. I'll bet that would make a nice B&W too.

    McGee Creek

Yeah, the scattered leaves are one of my favorites too. Oddly enough, I found a few more small waterfalls over the time I was there, but the had absolutely no color to be found around them. But I shot them anyway. I find it interesting when shooting fall colors how much back or side lighting...

    McGee Creek

Actually Jim, it was the last shoot of the first day. I should have been more clear. ;-)

    McGee Creek

This was from my just completed trip to the Eastern Sierra. This was literally the last shoot of the day as I stumbled upon this creek view.

3 From Dead Horse Point State Park

Mike, your comment really strikes home with me. When I was there in Feb of this year I set up a good 20 feet from the edge. But the whole area was like gravel, and the ground was slightly tilted forward. It scared the daylights out of me always fearing that a simple slip on the gravel could...

    Fall Color Reports - 2018

Jeffrey, I’m glad to hear you say that. While I always enjoy my trips I don’t always find things as great as many people claim. I got rave reviews from the Bishop visitor center regarding North Lake and Rock Creek. While I found parts of the North Lake area still colorful, most of it was not...

    Fall Color Reports - 2018

    Fall Color Reports - 2018

Jim, I drove up to June Lake today. Must have missed you in Lone Pine. :-) The wind was howling in Bishop when I stopped for lunch. Had to change from shorts to long pants.

    Friday's Focus - 2018/09/28 - Canyons

I don't really have many canyons other than El Grande. According to my notes this is Powell Point, but I could be mistaken. The clouds spent a couple of hours in a really funky cookie cutter pattern that day. I have some other shots that emphasize the clouds and their shadows, but I like this...

    How to blur water...?

I did learn rather quickly that the speed of the water has a major impact on the proper shutter speed, as well as the fact that every given composition varies in the actual flow/fall of the water. Not to mention potential patterns created by flowing/pooling water are never twice the same at the...

    How to blur water...?

Thanks Ken. You make some good points. I have notice that clouds and shade tend to work better. I think I really just need to make an effort to shoot more water and get more experience with it. :-)

    Sunrise in the Grand Canyon

I thought that only happened to me there. As one who is not a morning person I can’t tell you how annoying it is to rise early, freeze your butt off, and get totally skunked.
