    Death Valley Milky Way

Never having successfully captured the milky way, I am not one to criticize. I like this very much. A niggle is that it feels a bit off kilter in that the tiles are not quite centered on the arch of the milky way. I would also like a bit more breathing room around the arch itself. Not sure...

    This morning's sunrise

Thought it would be a dud, but liked the fog and hung in there until this happened. Worth getting up for.

    Spring is springing in Atlanta

No. I don’t even own a flash unit! I understand many serious macro shooters use ring flashes or multiple strobe setups, but so far, I just use natural light. I like shooting flowers on overcast days for even light and mostly work off a tripod—especially if I am going to focus stack. If a...

    Spring is springing in Atlanta

Thanks all very much. Yes, the lens in question is a very fine optic—no discernible CA and sharp as a tack from wide open. These were all focus stacks ranging from F2.5-F5.6 and 8 to maybe 20 images stacked. Depth of field is really tiny at macro distances as you approach 1:1 magnification...

    Spring is springing in Atlanta

So I tried out a macro lens I bought not too long ago (Voigtlander 110/2.5). Was drizzling hence the droplets:

    A walk in the woods

Interesting. There are ferns and evergreens around these parts too, but these woods are at around 4500 feet and it is winter. Similar to the Pacific Northwest, this area is a rainforest (over 80” of rain a year). I have never spent time in the Pacific NW, but I bet there is a similar feel...

    A walk in the woods

Foggy/drizzly/overcast late afternoon, so I figured I would take a stroll in some nearby woods....

    Blue “waves”

No solid cloud bank in that direction (South, more or less)--only clouds in that direction were wispy ones as seen. Other directions had more clouds. FYI, these were all taken with a telephoto zoom I am using a fair amount due to being asked to review the lens. These are all at 100mm focal...

    Blue “waves”

I like when the “blue ridge mountains” appear like their name suggests. In the receding sunset, they often look like almost like ocean waves to me.

    Schoolhouse Falls

Thanks for your comments, Tim. I usually move around a lot and take different vantage points and agree I would have liked to avoid the branches but really could not without zooming in as in the third pic (70mm). Here, without waders, there was precious little real estate. If I had moved left...

    Schoolhouse Falls

Have had a huge amount of rain around here, so I checked out one of my favorite falls. The water was higher than I have ever seen and the surface of the plunge pool was choppy so long exposures were better, i thought. Only problem was a huge amount of spray! I did a lot of wiping and praying...
