    Favorite Places

I imagine everybody is pining for the day we can travel to our favorite places again. I know I am! Here's one of mine. Despite the bright sky from the fog burning off, still a pleasing place to stroll and look and listen to the sights and sounds of the bay. — in Morro Bay, California. Two versions.

    An arch in the making?

From Apr '19, another image to share along UT Hwy 95 south from Hanksville. A country full of wonderful scenery, geology, terrain and color. And I was blessed this day with a lovely sky as well!

    You know where....

Playing with a b&w treatment on an image from almost a year ago. The view from Green River overlook on Island in the Sky, Canyonlands NP. Had a really nice dramatic sky that morning which let in some cool dappled light on the bluffs across the way.

    A Grand View

An image from my trip out west last April. A grand view from Grand View! Early morning with some pretty cool drama in the sky. Two-shot wide pano.

    Rain Forest Scene

Staying home like a good little boy, like everyone else should. Perusing old files, still, and found this one to completely re-do. From Aug '09, with the fun gang in the PNW. This, I believe was from the nature walk in the Quinault River Valley. I was drawn to the light hitting these ferns down...

    Pigeon Point

Foggy morning on the coast. Aug '09.

    Harmony

More of a rural scene but...... Still doing the 'thing', so still perusing old files for pics to re-do, tweak, bring up to date, or whatever. Found this one from Aug '09 in the little compound of Harmony, between Cayucos and Cambria. A very cool spot if you haven't been there. Mid-day, bright...

    Santuario de Chimayo

Another new image from April '19. Santuario de Chimayo, NM. Very cool old church north from Santa Fe. Tough light at the time but I thought worth sharing.

    The White House

Here on day 3,250,489 of self isolation , I found another image to share for the first time. Also from Canyon de Chelly in Jan '19, after the evening's shade had settled into the canyon floor. From White House view point.

    Canyon de Chelly Evening

Continuing adventures in dumpster diving. Found this from Jan '19 to re-work. Canyon de Chelly, from the White House view point. I love the cut through the cliffs and the dirt road winding through to give it some scale. Add the evening shadows creeping up the walls for dramatic light. Hope all...

    Late

Another from Jan '19. After the afternoon shooting in Monument Valley I raced down to Chinle in hopes of getting some sunset drama at Canyon de Chelly. Another wonderful place in Navajo land! Alas, I arrived too late to catch Spider Rocks in late afternoon spotlight, but was treated to this...

    More MV

One more from Jan '19 at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Shortly after my recent post of Elephant Butte, I moved around to John Ford Point and found, happily, that the clouds were still selective in where they let the sun shine. Magnificent views abound in this place. Really wish I lived...

    Monument Valley re-visit

I'm sad that, among many other places, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park has been closed due to the virus situation. I have been blessed, however, to have visited there a few times. Sooo, I dug into my archives and visited again! Elephant Butte, from Jan '19, on a mostly overcast day, but with...

    More Z Pt.

Still behaving :-), so here is another image from the badlands around Zabriske Point, DVNP. Dec '17. This time looking southeasterly, more or less toward the sun, from the walk-way up to the main viewing area. Despite being subdued, the color palette, not to mention the erosional patterns in the...

    71 seconds

So I made it out of the house today. Don't worry, just ran down to Pickthorne Lake to see what sunset had to offer. Very little color, certainly not a classic one, so I put the camera on bulb, slapped on the Vari-ND filter and did some long exposures. Just because!! In this one, 71 seconds...
