    Sh2-224 the Rice Hat Nebula

This shot is a total of 7 hours so far. It is very faint object, I could barely see it with a 6 minute shot. I am imaging in Bortle 8 skies and using a 5nm Ha filter. I tried some O3 shots but could not see anything but I will get more O3 to get a color image.

    Sun full disc and close-up

These shots were taken with the Lunt 60 and ASI 1600mm. The close-up was with a 2x barlow and I over exposed the surface to show the prominences better. I find using a mono camera and adding false color with a photo editing software produces the best images.

    Seagull Nebula

I finally had a couple of clear nights so I was able to get 4 more hours added to the other 4 hours I got back in 2018. This is from my backyard in a bortle 8 zone with my neighbors patio light shining towards me., thank you narrow band filters. I used the Takahashi FSQ106 with a 0.73 reducer...

    Jellyfish Nebula

The Jellyfish Nebula is a Type II supernova remnant about 5000 light years away in the constellation of Gemini. This one took me a little over 4 hours to shoot over 3 days. I used S2, Ha and O3 filters. Here is a link to a little better resolution. https://pbase.com/hobbynaut/image/173320334

    Sun 12-06-22

There was a nice large prominence on the sun today. I added the earth in to show how large it is. I think I'm pretty close on the size.

A few close up moon shots.

The atmosphere was pretty steady last night and I have several shot of the same surface features of Mars so decided to shoot the moon.

    Mars 12-01-22

I finally put all my equipment back in the observatory. I got in an imaging slump ever since Hurricane Ian. I took this shot with the Celestron 9.25 Edge , 2.5 Powermate and the ASI 224mc camera. The seeing was pretty good last night a little above average. I processed most of it in...

    Crab Nebula

I tried something different on this shot. I combined a HOO processed image and a SHO processed image and used the luminosity blending mode in Affinity Photo. I also used starnet 2 in Pixinsight to remove the stars and processed the nebula seperately. This was taken with the Celestron 9.25 edge...

    Observatory made it through hurricane

Well hurricane Ian came roaring through last week with a vengance. My yard was really hit hard, but only had a few roof shingles missing. My observatory only had slight damage. Here are a few photos. I don't know when I will be up and running with the telescope but I still have the solar scope...

    Processing Jupiter tutorial

I've been trying different stacking sofware for processing the sun, moon and planets. ZWO came out with ASIStudio. It is all basic and very simple to use. I put together a short tutorial on processing Jupiter. This is excellent for beginners who want a simple program without all the different...

    Solar prominence from 8-24-22

I was able to get out in the heat and humidity to get these shots of the sun. It was as hot as the pics look. I used the Lunt 60 Hydrogen Alpha scope. On the one shot, I blocked the surface out in post processing. I took a video using 60% of 1000 frames.

    First Saturn shot of 2022

I finally had a clear night to get out to image Saturn. I used the Celestron 9.25 Edge with a 2.5 Powermate and ASI224mc camera. I took 2000 frames and stacked 40%. I reprocessed the images using less frames and I think the colors came out better.

    More fun on the sun

I couldn't bring out how the prominence at the upper left connected so I used a 2x barlow to get a little closer and now you can see where it connects.

This shot is 30 minutes with a shot every 5 minutes. I had to quit because of clouds. Notice the one prominence that shoots out of the sun spot.
