This is beautiful but begs some background. Was the rainbow extremely close to you?
Ben, I was up on the mountain side, and the rainbow was down in the valley. I used 75-300 zoom which, with 4/3 crop factor, equals to 150-600mm - so quite a magnification.

Hey Sasha,

I think this one is awesome! I mean, totally awesome!

Not a thing I would change about it. I love that the rainbow is so huge and translucent. The background being a bit soft is perfect because it then doesn't distract from the focus of this shot, and that is the rainbow. It provides a cool backdrop to the rainbow with the cliffs, but it doesn't distract in any way.

You should really think about entering this in one of the annual landscape contests, like with Outdoor Photography, or such.

Sasha,
Really neat image. I would be tempted to crop some of the dark area off at the bottom may be 1/2 of it to 2/3's my eye went there first before I realized the amazing background of the painted cliffs. The colors look really great.
Great thinking on how to work the rainbow and very unique !
Regards,
Den

After I asked my question, I realized it was probably a long lens shot. Still good to visualize this and get the shot.

Hi Sasha,

The simple composition with basic layers works very well when you capture such a strange phenomenon.
