Peak Alder

A nice scene along Sweet Creek Road not far up the road from where the creek ends. The maples were putting on their usual show of orange and yellows but in this case we also have an additional treat. Mixed in with the maples and conifers are some trees in an almost lime green hue - these are the alders and believe it or not this is very close to their peak fall color show. They have white trunks and when I first moved up to the Pacific NW I kept thinking I wasn't being successful at catching their prime colors before the trees shed their leaves but as it turns out they don't really do fall colors. The leaves turn from a nice summer green to a more sickly shade of green and then just fall off while still showing the light green hue.

Single frame at 24mm from late October.

Beautiful scene, Alan, I like the many details in the meadow, in the forests and the beautifully colored trees.. nice composition, very nice shot.

I am really liking this Alan. The road going through it is a great leading line.
Thanks Jim - for as many times as I have driven this little road (dozens) I never get tired of what a beautiful little valley it is. I wish there were far more turnouts than there really are but I am trying to make up for it by shooting from the air. Almost every inch of the land leading up to the USFS boundary is privately owned and posted but I haven't decided whether that is a good or bad thing yet.

Neat view with a range of green hues to go with the yellows. The curvy road is a nice lead in to the scene.
Thanks Jameel - there is another 5.5 miles worth of scenes like this before you make it up to USFS lands and the trailhead for the Sweet Creek waterfalls with a curvy creek and road all along the way. I have made a point of hitting up this place every year in the fall since 2017 and plenty of random visits other times of the year as well. The roadway with the overhanging fall colors on the maples is almost magical when you get peak colors like this.
