Is anyone making plans to shoot the Lunar Eclipse that is coming up in a few days? So far according to the forecast anywhere I might possible be (I have a 5 state radius I could possibly be in) it seems like clouds are in the forecast on the 20th right now.

Yeah, that looks nice Kyle!

One thing with the moon being very high in the sky during the eclipse it almost doesn't matter where it's shot from since odds are we aren't including anything on the ground with it.

I was envisioning doing a vertical with the eclipse sequence in Yosemite valley. The Moon would still have been high for totality, but I figured there'd be plenty of interest. The downside is that wide angles make the Moon small...

I was wondering about my chances for that - until I looked at the cloud cover forecast. My closest open sky will be roughly the Oregon/Idaho border. :(

Yeah, the moon is going to be pretty high, so I am thinking I would just shoot it with a longer lens and just forget about adding any landscape in the shot.

It looks like clouds everywhere! I might take a chance and drive over to Palouse Falls. If I go down on the ledge or clear to the bottom, I might be able to get the falls and the moon without a using a real wide angle. Good luck you guys! Hopefully somebody gets a shot.

That sure sounds cool Bill, I hope it works out for you. That would be a great perspective. It's funny, I think all of the shots of Palouse Falls that I recall are shot from up top. It would be cool to see a shot of it from the bottom.

It looks like I could be in Santa Fe on Sunday, so their forecast is for partly cloudy skies which is way better then totally cloudy skies. So maybe I will get a chance at it.

I shot a bunch of stuff with my Sigma 150-600mm from the driveway. I will have to get into it to see how it came out. I was trying a bracketed sequence that would allow for some detail in both the bright and eclipsed sections of the moon at once. We will see how that comes out and if I can manage anything useful from that.

I hope they turned out. I was doing bracketing too, my problem might be that there was a thin layer of clouds up in the sky, so when I overexposed to get the red to show through on the partial eclipse time, there was a huge glowing hallow of the bright part of the moon with the thin clouds. So I bracketed, but it may be too much work to deal with.
