Nice images, everybody!
I don't get to National Parks or Monuments much since I usually have my dog with me so.....here is Colorado's 1st National Monument. It was created in 1908. Because of it's remote location (about 1 1/2 hours on a 14-mile 4x4 road or a 7 mile backpack), it lost its status due to lack of traffic in 1950. The Wheeler Geologic Area is now part of La Garita Wilderness.

My first time there was as a backpack, sleeping at about 11,000', listening to my heart pound and elk bugle all around me. There was a rancher who would pack in with some of his horses, then ride out with some & bring his others in. He'd spend a total of 2 weeks there every fall. Pretty nice deal. The next time, I had a high clearance 4WD, but in some ways I missed walking in. I didn't miss walking out, though! View attachment 7083

Alan, nice perspective. You shooting stars there tonight?
I am up near La Push for the next two nights and am going to try my hand at a sunset plus some star shots tonight at Rialto. I have had cloud cover every night except for last night. I intended to go up to Ruby around 4:00am but overslept  There are supposed to be a lot of clouds rolling in overnight tonight so not sure what to expect for tomorrow. Seems weird because there are no clouds outside at all right now.

just remember where you come into the beach at. In the dark the trail off the beach is not easy to find, If you lose the forest on your left, you gone to far, but the overnight parking lot should be right there.

I have to park down by the overnight parking lot anyway since I don't really fit in the one near the restrooms all that well.

This looks other worldly, Monika.

This is one of the best threads I've seen here so far - what a great series of images! Like Jim I was thinking USA, then Kyle reminded me that I love the Canadian parks, then Jeffrey showed off Africa, then Monika showcased a super cool out of the way ex-monument! I want to go through my archives and find my favorite shots from all of these types, but will hold myself to just a few close to home since that's where I spend the most time. As usual I'll give the climber/skier perspective. These are from a 3 day ski tour called The Forbidden Traverse since it circles that beautiful mountain in the North Cascades.

Skiing Quien-Sabe Glacier

Look for the skiers approaching Sharkfin col

Sunrise on Eldorado Pk. (we skied off the summit down that face as our last descent of the tour).
