Sept 10 west of Nederland, CO @ 12,000'
It's starting! Sorry for the crappy quality, but it's an old phone zoomed way out........you can still see yellow blotches, though. In words: numerous pockets of golden aspen. Most stands had 1 or 2 aspen that had turned red, starting at @10,200'.

Well, the places in the La Sal mountains I usually go shoot for color were damaged by the forest fire this spring. Doesn't look like much potential this year although it was less damage than I had expected so possibly a rebound next year.

In a couple weeks or so, here will be THE BEST place for Fall photos, can't wait to go shooting, it's just started to change colors, just waiting for the first frost to happen.

Up around 12,000' again, this time in Summit county, CO. Far above where the aspen grow, but nice colors in the willows (the aspen were pretty nice, but down low, so lots of noise from the interstate, making me anxious to get away, up higher.......) I think that the peak in the background is called the Citadel. 9.13.21 Herman Gulch Trail by Silverthorne, CO. And no wildfire smoke!!!

Aspen are the 1st to populate after something like fire, so you may have some nice new aspen in the future!

Dallas Divide, SW Colorado

Greens starting to turn lime green, a few hints of yellow. Some scrub oak turning red/orange. It’s hard to make guesses, but it should start looking good in a week?

Traffic on Hwy 62 between Ridgway and Dallas Divide will be able issue as they are doing some road construction. I am typing this while dead stopped. It looks like they are replacing part of the road. But it was just a 5 minute delay.

I-70 by Vail Colorado

If you want fall color now? Drive to Vail as the color is really popping.

I would say 50% of the hills have color that is at the 50 to 60% range.

The other 50% of hills have trees that are lime green.

Central Colorado, a little West of Gunnison on 9/17. The east side was pretty green still, but the west was coming along nicely. McClure pass (south side) was pretty much all green all the way down to Paonia, but the north side had good color, mostly in the scrub oak but the aspen were coming along.

Colorado. Sept 18. Drove over Grand Mesa. Some modest color on the north side, none on the south. Went on to Crested Butte via CR 12. Some spots with color, but still mostly very green.

Not my photo, but I had a friend take this at Maroon Bells this weekend. She thinks peak is about a week away.

Oh man, thanks Kyle!

Maroon Bells is a strange one in that I don't believe it has 1 peak. Most often by the time the green trees in this reach peak, the ones that are already peak will be bare. Based on this, I think a week might be pushing it. Probably the 24th to 25th might be the best? But Maroon Bells is cool in that since it has it's trees peaking at 2 different times, the viable time to get good fall color photos stretches out.

Picture taken in Saint-Ferdinand, province of Quebec on Sept 21 2021. The colors are starting to show but should be at their peak in two weeks approx.
