Front Range: Peak to Peak Hwy Boulder Canyon to Brainard Lake 8/30
A few pockets with scattered branches turning, also pockets along Peak to Peak with aspen with leaves already brown & many leaves dropped (SAD? and not in the Trump usage). This is probably one of the best displays (also some spotted from the Brainard Lake Rd with nowhere to turn out). Looks to be on schedule.

Also 4 moose spotted (3 along the road, 1 along the trail to Blue Lake).

Grand Mesa at 10,000 ft. 09-01-2018 - not a whole lot of change going on yet. View attachment 11550
Thanks for that update and thanks for adding a photo. I always prefer photos in the reports, because percentages about color can be very arbitrary, but to see it in a photo, we each can make our own conclusions. So thanks Amy! :)

Yeah, it doesn't look like anything at all yet. Thank you so much for the report!

3 Sept Front Range Peak to Peak & Brainard Lake
A little further along than before. Some pockets will be looking very good in another week or so, but still mostly green. Understory is pretty good with yellow & a little red is some places. Everything looks pretty dry right now. The 1st 3 were taken from the same pullout : looking NNE, NW & SW from the Peak to Peak. The last 2 from the Brainard Lake road.

Thanks got the update Monika and the photos. It does look like the color is coming, but it’s still going to be a while. My plan is to get to Colorado on the 16th, but that can change. I figure I will know better by next Monday.

I was just up HWY 395 in the Eastern Sierra on Wed 9/5 and from Lee Vining down I didn’t see any color in the aspens, they all looked totally green.

Down towards Lone Pine the Cottonwoods were starting to show some early signs of the green starting to grow slightly a little green with a few patches of very faint yellow.

If Colorado is coming early at this point I would say California (Eastern Sierra) will be at it’s normal timing.

Colorado Update:

Per the Denver Post, here is an update of fall colors.

Due to extreme drought, the San Juans are already having color. Purgatory, Molas Pass but not peak yet. Color is going to be spotty this year.
Hwy 103 from Evergreen to Mt Evans has some nice color right now, but still not peaked. Guanella Pass has some nice color.
Vail, Minturn area has some turning but still a week or more away.

Thanks for the update Amy! I think the prediction of fall color being 2 weeks early in Colorado a few weeks back may have been too aggressive? Peak color seems like it may be only 1 week early at best?

Drove from Vancouver WA to Spokane today and got to see what was along the way. The Portland area got rain this morning and the first real measurable rain since early July. I ran into off and on showers/drizzle all the way through the Gorge. I always love the Gorge with a canopy of clouds and scattered rain showers so this was a wonderful treat for me driving through there after such a dry summer. Trees are starting to change but there was a lot of stress induced dead leaves that were hard to ignore just below Cascade Locks. On the east side all the way to and including Spokane where I am tonight you have to remind yourself that you are supposed to be looking for fall colors to notice what's showing. Aspen along I-90 are only slightly acquiring any yellow.

I'm thinking of the second week of October in the Eastern Sierra. The usual places. Hoping for good timing. Let's meet up!
