Caught this one hanging out at the pond several years back, love the Feet!

Distinctly unusual feet to be sure. I am used to seeing them out on the water but rarely perched like this. Kinda cool appendages to be honest.

This is a great shot to show the scaly feet. We have seen far fewer American Coots in our area this year. Not sure if it is related to the Avian Influenza outbreak or not.

I have seen those hanging out with the ducks and geese at the local pond in California. I wondered what ii was.

I like how it's kind of looking over its shoulder at you.

Roger, I have taken many shots of American Coot, while it's not the photogenic bird, it's very storyful.

These birds are so common, that most people walk by without throwing 2nd glance; I have had some close-up shots: from the ivory white beaks to the ruby red eyes, the green webbed feet ... very fascinating.
