There was some nice moody clouds in Yosemite a few week back, and I really liked how this ring of clouds was on the top of Half Dome but not covering the tip. So often if the top of Half Dome gets covered the distinctive tip is covered too.

A couple of weeks ago when I was up at Yosemite at Tunnel View at sunset, as Twilight hit it dawned on me that the clouds were moving pretty fast in the background. And so I took a couple of 30 second exposures, this was the second one, and just as I was thinking on putting on a 10 stop so I...
This is from an evening a few years ago where I arrived in Yosemite after dark, left before dawn, and shot icons my moonlight in between. It is a blast having these spots to myself.
Any thoughts are welcome.
My last star shot in Yosemite was my best I think as this meteor streaked right through the shot in the middle of the exposure. It was really exciting to see that streak happen and the 6 or 7 of us up at Tunnel View all gasped and got excited.
This is a one shot image, it's my favorite time...
This was taken in soft early morning light as I was leaving Yosemite a few days ago. These Redbud trees in bloom are really cool looking as the color really makes them jump out. I don't know why it's called Redbud when the blooms look purple, but that's it's name. :)

Once a year I like to take a trip for my birthday. Last year was Iceland, this year a road trip that took me from Death Valley to Yosemite. This was my first time in both locations and wow. Beautiful! Here is one from Yosemite and the firs edit of the bunch! CC welcome!
Here is an updated...
I had posted that color shot of Vernal Falls in Yosemite earlier in the week. I had a feeling I would like it in B&W perhaps more, and was also thinking that a vertical composition would be nice with this to help balance the pour off in the foreground with the falls in the background.
All...
From a few weeks ago in Yosemite, after a fresh snowfall I decided to hike up to Vernal Falls and I was hoping to get a little different perspective on it. Where I shot this from would be impossible during the spring and summer, only in the later fall would the water be low enough to get out...
Hello Focal World - I was photo-touring an Alabama friend in Yosemite a couple weeks ago when we happened to set up next to Jim at Tunnel View - we did see him a couple other spots in the park too - and,at his invitation, here I am to share three El Capitan shots and a Lower Yosemite Falls shot...
This is a wider view from Tunnel View, still having some of the rocks obscured to varying degrees but not as minimalistic of a view as my previous thread "Curtains". One thing that is interesting is the WB when shooting clearing storms in Yosemite Valley. Quite often the area back by Half Dome...
I ran up to Yosemite early in the week as I saw the forecast was for a late afternoon snow storm with an early morning clearing storm. This was from the clearing storm, and the clouds were acting like a curtain in the sky momentarily pulling open and showing a peak or two and then within seconds...
If only there was some snow in Yosemite Valley I would be up there photographing, instead it's brown and barren so I have to dig in the archives to find some snow on the ground. This was kind of cool how the clouds being lit with color parted a bit to let a view in to the background clouds that...
This was a special morning that was mainly overcast at sunrise, but I stuck around for a bit which allowed the sun to break though an unseen hole in the clouds as it was rising to back light a small patch of clouds passing over the face of Half Dome.

Here's an image from the top of Sentinel Done in Yosemite at sunset. The view toward Half Dome was great, but I wanted to take advantage of these colors to the West, so I composed around this tree.
Any thoughts are welcome.
I don't usually shoot star trails, in part because I'm usually in a rush to do something or I just don't want to tie up my camera long enough to get good ones. When I went to Yosemite last April to shoot Tunnel View at night, I had a few hours between moon set (when I shot the ground) and when...
This was taken just before New Year's a few winters ago, in a year where Tioga Pass stayed open into January. This gave me the chance to shoot a winter sunset at Tenaya Lake, which is one of my favorite places. There were many pools of water on the ice, so I walked around until I find a...
This is one of my first ever digital photos, taken with my then brand new Canon Rebel XT along with a Tokina 20-40 lens. I've reprocessed this many times as I've learned how to use the various software tools and developed a workflow that I like. Gear and learning aside, it was a beautiful scene...
This was taken in April from Tunnel View. I took the ground image around 11:30PM with the moon lighting Bridalveil Falls. I waited a couple of hours for the stars to move into position and then took the sky image.
Any thoughts are welcome.
A few years ago I attended a Starry Skies workshop with Michael Frye (one of my all time favorite photographers). We spent one evening at Olmsted Point shooting the various trees with the stars behind them. Michael showed the group this tree and many of them spent time taking turns having a go...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
