We spotted this waterfall along the highway and decided to check it out. We did this a lot. In fact, it felt like we could have stopped every mile! We were rarely disappointed. This spot won't be cited on any maps by name but was well worth the visit.
After facing crowds at some of the more popular places during the day, we ventured to Svartifoss at near midnight. Of course, this time of year, that's not a problem as the light is good for 24 hours! We did the 1 mile hike without seeing a soul.
I captured this on a rainy afternoon near Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. I liked the flow of water over the rocks in the foreground and got low to emphasize it.
Any thoughts are welcome.
This waterfall is along the Haast highway between Wanaka and New Zealand's West coast.
I shared a phone edit of this in a waterfall
Wednesday thread a few weeks ago. Here's the finished version. This was taken after sunset as the sky was darkening. I took two images for DOF and blended in a...
Another from Yankee Boy Basin in the San Juan's in Colorado. The hope was to get wildflowers captured along with the waterfalls. It was rainy and overcast. I kept this one in Color, one of the reasons I had converted the previous shot to B&W is that the greens with all that moisture were just so...
I debated whether I should save these for another waterfall Wednesday thread, but decided to post a bonus waterfall today instead. I shared my self portrait at the "trailhead" in the signs contest here. Normally Athabasca Canyon is filled wall to wall with beautiful turquoise water (example)...
I'll admit to being inspired by someone else's photo to look for this composition - but it was still fun to shoot. This is Panther Creek falls in Southern Washington framed within a fallen tree.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Here's a bonus waterfall for this week from Iceland (this is a fall and hopefully not a "fail"). Seljalandsfoss is a very popular fall just off the ring road on the south coast of Iceland. We drove by to scout it out during the day and I didn't really want to even deal with trying to find a...
From a few years back down in Havasu Falls area. Following the creek is so fun, there are so many different compositions. Here is one fun area I spent an hour or two working.
All comments are welcome,
Jim
For those that wanted to see a little more below this little fall, here's a viewpoint I found precariously balanced on a nearby rock. There are no options for moving left or right from here.
For those that are tired of seeing threads with the word "Yosemite" in them when the picture isn't from...
I often go hiking in the nearby Sunol Regional Wilderness. The park has an area known as "Little Yosemite", I presume due to the rocks and cascades in Alameda Creek. I photograph this spot often, and have yet to come home with the image I've visualized. I'm getting closer though. I have a good...
This is the first view of Havasu Falls that you get as you turn the corner on the trail coming from the Havasupai village. After playing in the water getting some other compositions, I moved back up to this spot to get the last glow of sunset on the rocks and take advantage of the light clouds...
Here's a B&W version from Kirkjufell in Western Iceland. I processed the top half with an orange filter to darken the sky and pick up the highlights in the cloud and mountain. The bottom half was with a blue filter to highlight the falls.
Any thoughts are welcome!
Day 3 of 7 posting B&W images
This is Aldeyjarfoss in Northern Iceland, a really cool waterfall that is at least a little off the beaten path (dirt road and some hiking). The result is some nice glacial green water flowing through a basalt amphitheater. This is my favorite type of image to...
I thought this was a really cool waterfall in Jasper National Park. The island in the middle of the river combined with the green water both worked for me.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Here are a few compositions of Archangel Falls near the Subway in Zion National Park. I was definitely looking forward to shooting this with some autumn colors so I stopped here both coming and going. The first two are landscape and portrait optios of the more classic view. The last is an...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
