    First Stabs at Solar Imaging

I was using sharpcap for a long time but I got a crazy amount of dropped frames at times. I use ASIcap now and I might get a couple at the most. Can you get the surface detail and the prominences focused in the same shot? With my scope I just focus on the surface detail and the proms. are in...

    First Stabs at Solar Imaging

Hi James. welcome to the Focal World. Nice shot, I think you are on your way to getting some nice solar shots. I know what the Daystar quark is but I'm not familiar with it. I've had my Lunt solar scope since 2009 so I've had a lot of practice with it. What scope, camera and software are you...

    Sun full disc and close-up

Thanks Mike, You don't need a big solar scope or a big mount. You can set these up anywhere and get great views of the sun, especially now that it is active.

    Moon Experiment - 20230313

I'll bet it was the seeing that was very poor. What scope did you use?

    Sun full disc and close-up

Thanks Jim, If you are talking about a white light filter you would not get the prominences but it will show sunspots. Hydrogen Alpha scopes show both.

    Sun full disc and close-up

These shots were taken with the Lunt 60 and ASI 1600mm. The close-up was with a 2x barlow and I over exposed the surface to show the prominences better. I find using a mono camera and adding false color with a photo editing software produces the best images.

    Seagull Nebula

Since it's a remote setup it would be to great benifit. Some of these objects need to be rotated to get everything you want to fit in the view. I hope you canmake it work.

This is from my backyard in a bortle 8 zone with my neighbors patio light shining towards me., thank you narrow band filters. I used the Takahashi FSQ106 with a 0.73 reducer...

    Best of 2022

#1 Super large Solar Prominence from 12-06-2022 with Earth shown to to show how insignificant we are. #2 flower and spider. I did not see the spider until I got home to process photos. #3 Mars captured in the month of December showing all of the surface. #4 I did a Burrowing Owl survey...

    Jellyfish Nebula - IC 443

Nice shot Jim, I like the natural colors. The reason I do the Narrow band imaging is because I don't go to dark sites any more and I have too much light pollution.
