I'll start of today's Winged Wednesday with photographs of the awesome Red-tailed hawk.

I photographed this red-tail from my moving blind (Jeep). I an awesome event watching a red-tail hunting and flying so close that he fills the frame with just his body

Same hawk as the previous photo.

15 years ago, I watched this red-tail capture a gray squirrel. I got close enough for a phone photo but it was many years before I owned a camera phone.

Red-tailed Hawk 2.jpg

This hawk was perched on a telephone pole. He took to the air and was kind enough to bank and look back at me.

My contribution is Bohemian Waxwings from two days ago. There were about 100 birds in the tops of some tall Elm trees and they were taking turns flying down to eat the berries off a Mountain Ash tree that was quite close to me and not too tall so the birds were at a perfect level. I was able to set up with a nice grey background and pumped off a few hundred shots. These are my favourites.

Envy Envy Envy, Trent. I have seen Bohemian waxwings but never photographed them. Each photo is a treasure.

All beautiful mages, Eric. I absolutely love that fourth one.

I love Cedar Waxwings, but I think I love Bohemian Waxwings even more. Gorgeous images, Trent

I was trying to photograph some of the garden birds yesterday when I noticed that bumble bees have started flying. No fancy modes for tracking bees so lots of bursts at 7fps and hope that some are in focus. What I find most surprising is modern software that can produce a mostly noiseless image cropped from 10% of the full image at ISO 2500. 5 years ago this would have been impossible, not capturing flying insects, but doing so without much skill and without very expensive bright glass. This is a remarkable shot Ken. Love to pollen on the legs. Pollinator at work for sure.

My wings today are a salvage job from a 2001 capture using an Olympus C2100 digital camera with a whopping 2MP resolution. Current generation software let me spruce it up a bit to present some organic weather vanes along the Oregon coast. This was shot on a very blustery day at Seaside from a hotel balcony and I was fascinated by the seagulls that decided hunkering down facing the wind was more sensible than trying to fly.
