Not to be confused with the mountain of the same name in Mt. Rainier NP, this one is viewed from Hwy. 20 in the North Cascades. Paul Bunyan's Stump just to the left.
Trees of Mystery is the place you are thinking of - just south of Wilson Creek along US101 in CA.A beautiful scene Jim. I love the wispy clouds.
Growing up in Minnesota, I thought Paul Bunyan was just a Minnesota thing. I remember feeling a little upset as a kid when I found out that Wisconsin was laying some claim to Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox. So it's interesting to see something in Washington named for him.
And as an adult, I found out there is park in northern California or Oregon that has a Paul Bunyan in it too. Its off Hwy 1, I need to recall where that was. The Mystery Forest or something I think?
Glad to hear you didn't get conned - that place has all the hallmarks of a major tourist trap. I have driven past that place dozens of times and can't imagine paying for their hype. The billboards approaching the site from either direction are enough to make me want to avoid the place. We pulled over to get out and look at the big Paul Bunyan at Trees of Mystery, but didn't pay to enter.
That's it, Trees of Mystery! We pulled over to get out and look at the big Paul Bunyan at Trees of Mystery, but didn't pay to enter.
