Little House on the Prairie

Last Friday as I was driving back from Yellowstone I passed back through the Tetons and Jackson taking HWY 191 down to Rock Springs to connect with the I-70 to head back to my daughters house as I had plans with the grandkids on the weekend with Pokemon Go Fest where we could catch Pokemon for 10 hours each day and the 9 year old granddaughter had a Gymnastics meet on Sunday morning. I had talked with @Amy Nelson earlier in the week and realized that I had not been shooting any IR photos at all over the previous month. So I made it a goal to go and shoot some more.

I stopped in the Tetons and shot a few IR and I will still process them, but while driving down Hwy 191 I remembered seeing this cool abandoned farmhouse so I decided I would stop in capture it in both regular and IR photography. This is the IR version. It was shot on my Nikon D850 with the 24-120mm lens and a 720nm IR filter on it.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

PS.... Alan get your IR setup going. It would be fun to see some of your photos from up in PNW in IR.

A very different take on a scene like this. Is this a daytime image or moonlit? You could almost pass it off as either.

I am also quite curious to see what our forests looks like in IR but my plans for converting an old camera body got deferred for a bit when our house AC compressor had to be replaced. I could have bought a Canon R5 and a couple of RF lenses for what the ended up costing.

Thank you Alan! This was daylight, with using the 720nm filter on the lens I have found I need it to be pretty light out. The IR filter acts like an ND so once it starts getting darker out it just gets so much harder to shoot. Not only from movement of objects with the 20-30 sec shutter speeds being needed as it’s darker out, but I noticed a lot of color shifting particularly with lots of magenta in the shadows.

This is really neat Jim, but I find myself wishing for a different color in the sky,
Thanks Ben. I can appreciate the thoughts about the color of the sky, I still don’t do enough IR yet to know how to control or change up the color of the sky, or what would be a good IR color to compliment the ground.

I like it! It really does (to Alan's point) have a moonlit feel to it.
Thanks Jim. I didn’t quite see the moonlight feel at first but now I do see where you and Alan are seeing that which makes the sky feel even cooler now. :)

Interesting colors. Like the ground layer but the sky colors somehow seem a bit funky.
Thanks Jameel. I agree with you, though I do like how Alan and Doug think it feels like moonlight. :)

My post processing time is unfortunately so limited, I didn't have time to play around with the sky more.
