Another week and time for another Winged Wednesday. Post any photo of anything with wings. My theme for today is birds taking off from Water Part 2. I don't have a theme for next week yet... but it might not be birds.

A Snowy Egret takes flight from the back of a neotropic cormorant after snatching its fish

A double-crested cormorant with white crests must hop 8 to 10 times and powerfully flapping his wings to gain enough speed for takeoff.

American White Pelican, like the cormorant above, must hop and use his wings to reach liftoff.

The osprey has snared a trout and is using its powerful wing strength to take off from the water.

A pair of Sandhill Cranes races across the water to take flight

The killdeer barely drags its feet, it takes flight

Wow Eric, once again your images are remarkable. I can't get enough of looking at the colour on those two Sandhill Cranes. Absolutely beautiful.
I don't have any more birds taking off from water for the theme so will post pictures taken in the last week.

A Greater Yellowlegs in a local pond.

Same pond. Eared Grebe

Same pond. Male Ruddy Duck.

On a drive in the countryside near Saskatoon this Vesper Sparrow was really belting out a tune.

On the same drive this America Avocet was flying around protecting its nest so I got a few frames and let the area to avoid disturbing the bird.
