Winged Wednesday 6/2/2021

I'll start off today's Wing Wednesday perched animals in my Yard. This is the first installment of this theme.

Tachinid fly: There are over 1300 species in North America. Generally, they lay their eggs on a other insects . The eggs hatch and the larvae (mogotes) penetrate and parasitizes the host.

Monday was the first day this year when the temperature just hit 70F and we went for a walk on a beach in West Cumbria. The beach is the end point of longshore drift and is a mixture of gravel and mud and doesn't look great but it had a number of waders and it gave me another opportunity to capture birds in flight. Ken

Monday was the first day this year when the temperature just hit 70F and we went for a walk on a beach in West Cumbria. The beach is the end point of longshore drift and is a mixture of gravel and mud and doesn't look great but it had a number of waders and it gave me another opportunity to capture birds in flight. Ken

Recently I was walking in a park where I go often and this yellow streak caught my eye and landed quite close. It sat on a branch for about 5 seconds and was gone. I just happened to be ready and caught this shot. I found out later it is a Canada Warbler as I had never seen one before.
The other is a female Northern Shoveler on a pond in Saskatoon.

You are getting really good at this, Ken. All of these are skillfully captured. That third one is a Dunlin. The black belly breeding plumage is a dead give-a-way. They are, however, members of the sandpiper family.
