Winged Wednesday 5.4.2022

My contribution to today's Winged Wednesday is the male Scott's Oriole. The Scott's oriole is one of three orioles that nest in the forest behind my home. Next week's Winged Wednesday I will post photos of the other two, the Bullocks and Hooded oriole. I was elated and very lucky to get a flight series of the Scott's a few days ago. My camera takes 30 frames/second or 0.033 sec between photos. From take-off to 3 strokes is about 0.10 seconds. This old man's reflexes are way too slow to tack an oriole in flight. When the oriole perched, I anticipated his takeoff, guess his flight path, and clicked away. Manual settings: f/7.1; ISO 2000, 1/2500 sec

I sensed he would take off and pressed the shutter button

I missed the crouch and push-off event.

This was my favorite from the series.

I was down by the river in our city and practising with my new camera to get some in flight shots. This Ring-billed Gull was sitting on a rock making gull sounds when another bird flying close by, did a sudden loop, reversing direction and dove right into the water to pick up this fresh water crab.

great series !!! Every photo is perfectly exposed. I'm guessing that's a fresh water shrimp

I am definitely not up to catching small birds at takeoff and my buffer isn't up to long bursts on the off chance. I suppose the Olympus system where they pre-record could be good but I am not going to buy into a new system just to get better bird shots. Perched garden birds from me. The catchlights in the 2 tits shows my house
