My contribution for today's Wing Wednesday are birds launching from water. I am have been very impressed by the quality of the photographs posted on Winged Wednesday and eager to see your work. Thank you for playing.

Cinnamon Teals are common west of the Mississippi but they are also very shy and my nemesis until yesterday. Teals are small dabbling ducks. There are 15 species
of teal found on six continents. They are very shy and seldom tolerate photographers.

I am in California and it was reported that a White-tailed Kite was near my daughters home. If I could see him it would be a life bird for me. So I went out with my son-in-law to the location where he was seen and sat in folding chairs to see if he would return. We sat for about half an hour as the sun dipped close to the horizon and saw nothing. Then all of the sudden he appeared. We walked slowly toward him, taking images as we went, anticipating he would fly. As we walked closer he just sat there and we got very close. Then we spotted another one in a tree at a distance. He finally decided to join the other bird and that created some other great opportunities. Here are the results:

Great series, Eric. I whish I had been home to join you. That second one is just out of this world. Stunning is the word that comes to mind.

Very nice captures Douglas! Maybe they are nesting in the area....
