Michele Losee, a falconer from Flagstaff, Arizona, allowed some local photographer to photograph Finley, an American kestrel and, Leroy, her Harris's hawk. Last Wednesday I shared photos of Finley and for this week's Winged Wednesday, I have photos of Leroy.

Note, the bells and radio collar were removed in Photoshop.

Leroy's jesses, leather leg straps, were removed in photoshop.

Straight towards you is a difficult shot for me

Notice the small piece of meat on Michele's glove. Leroy noticed it from 50 yards away.

I don't have any shots with birds of prey with outstretched talons grabbing lunch so I will go a bit seasonal for today. There is a state park campground named Bullard's Beach near Bandon Oregon that a group of turkeys has decided to call home. They wander around like they own the place and have been there for several years now. You can't get all that close to them but they do wander around the campsites so I mounted my 100-400 lens and kept my distance to get a good portrait of this one.

The detail in your shots and the stop action is really amazing. Great work.

What happens after a successful catch with those lethal talons and ripping apart your meal with that curved beak. Well the remains must be eliminated.
Much comes out in the form of pellets regurgitated from the mouth while some gets through the intestinal tract and comes out the cloaca with concentrated urine.
Here is a three picture segment of a Merlin that nested close to my house a few years ago.

In 1864, war broke out between Spain and Peru. Spain, demanding repayment of debts arising from Peru's war of independence, took control of the guano-rich Chincha Islands. ... A guano war broke out again in 1879, this time between Bolivia, Chile, and Peru in a series of border and guano tax disputes.

Nice selection for an ending of a segment.

Well, while the majority of you guys have predator birds in the act of killing, like Alan I will have to go with something a little more docile. :)

I went to Knotts Berry Farm on Wednesday for lunch and out by the parking area a Rooster and some Chickens ran by.
