That beak on the Caracara is amazing. The blue and orange are really striking. You are such a great bird photographer Eric. All are top notch.

great photo of the Long-billed Curlew, Roger. The pincers are clearly visible on the tip of the upper bill.
Many long-billed shorebirds like your curlew have sensory pincers on the tip of their maxilla. The tip allows shorebirds to feel and grab food in mud and dirt without opening their entire bill. Thus keeping the entire length of the bill clean and free of mud.
