Wild light at sunrise

Got a gentle reminder from Ben that I have been MIA around here. Sorry bout that. Here is one from the other day--two mornings ago. I got up for the sunrise and hiked to my favorite nearby location despite high winds and cold temps (about 5 degrees F. with the wind chill). I had hopes for some color, but the low lying clouds were threatening to sock me in from any show. As often happens, bad weather makes for great conditions when one gets lucky. The clouds were moving so fast, I could not reliably exposure bracket or focus stack. I just stopped down, put on a reverse ND filter, and took a bunch of shots. I got several I liked, but here is one that I have posted elsewhere. Sorry for those who may have seen it previously. Comments/criticisms always welcome. Thx.

Hey Stephen!

I am so glad that Ben wrote to you. We have missed you here, so it's really awesome to have you come back, and then you come back with this totally awesome image! This one works in every way. Your instincts were spot on for capturing this.

Wonderful lucky shot, but you made the luck with that cold hike.
You are right about being lucky. As an old tennis coach of mine used to say, "I'd rather be lucky than good." But thanks for your kind words and I think for all landscape photographers, going back to the same location a lot and being willing to risk not getting anything eventually results in some good conditions in which to shoot.

Wow! This is really nice! I feel like I can feel the cold and the hope that the sun will soon cut it. Great Work!

Late posting to this - jaw dropping lighting and great composition make for an image exceptionally worthy of Weekly recognition status. It sure does look cold though! :)
