Wednesday means waterfalls so it's time for another round.

I have some fresh falls for today with a bit of a twist. Latourell Falls is one of my favorite places to try new things out and yesterday I decided to see what happens if I shoot waterfalls with an infrared converted camera body. It wasn't the best time of day for the light on Latourell but I decided to try it out anyway.

This is a camera converted for 590nm wavelengths and I did employ a technique called channel swapping as part of the processing.

It's great seeing it in IR Alan, and I am glad you were able to get out there.

Alan.. that looks great , snow in the spring :)
Roger.. very nice I like the perspective it adds a lot of drama to the comp.

I hope everybody is doing well.. Finally completely vaccinated and starting to head out into the world.
Here is one from Rickets Glenn in PA from a run in May of 2019

I love the falls in that place - and never get tired of images from there. Nice B&W conversion.

I forget the name of this waterfall, but it's in the Philippines in an area called Batad. It was about a 4 mile hike to get there. You can see the shelters down below, there was vendors down there selling cold gatorade and a few other drinks and snacks. Also about halfway along the trail there was a hut built into the side of the trail in the rain forest/jungle that sold food and drinks. It's all totally 3rd world conditions, but it was very interesting to experience.

The scale of those falls is deceptive until you pick out the shelters at the base of the falls. Neat looking place.

Back at Dash Falls, my location for last weeks Waterfall Wednesday. This time the temperature was hovering around freezing. This image from about 1/2 mile away of the bottom half. Interestingly I took 6 images but only 2 were sharp. As I was taking them I was using live view zoomed in to 10 times magnification and I could see heat shimmer so multiple shots reasoning that some of them should be sharp.

A few minutes after I captured this it started snowing.
This is a small set of falls just below the main set and was taken with hail bouncing down.

As I made my way to the main falls I came within 15ft of well camouflaged red deer stag that took off and ran up the steep hillside that last week left me gasping. This image was taken with me clinging onto the side of the hill.

The temperature continued to drop and when freezing rain started I called it a day. Ken

Beautiful results even if the weather was less than fantastic for your visit. Nothing in the images suggests the duress you were experiencing while shooting. Glad you got these before the freezing rain chased you away.
