My starter falls for today is an oldie from the Columbia River Gorge - Elowah Falls. The hike to these falls was always one of my favorites in the Gorge as well as the setting for the falls themselves. The vegetation in this scene was incinerated during the Eagle Creek fire in 2017 down to bare rock and the scene as shot from a helicopter was frequently featured in news coverage of the fire. The trail itself was also destroyed by the fire.
The trail to the falls as been reestablished about a year ago but I have not revisited this scene yet due to Covid and far too many people in the Gorge. Its a given the moss has recolonized the rocks and at this point a lot of plant life has returned although the forests that surrounded the falls will take more than my lifetime to regrow,
