Urban safari

It is a long time until spring when birds return so I set out to photograph the most abundant and perhaps ubiquitous of urban birds, the Rock Pigeon. It is a few blocks from my house to the University where there is a lot of agricultural research. The cattle are fed on the ground and the abundant feed attracts hundreds of pigeons and House Sparrows. I counted over 450 pigeons in bunches on the roof of the cattle sheds.

Nice shot of the lunch buffet and the intended consumers :) Great action shots of the pigeons and the perched sparrow.

A lot of the grain from eastern Washington, Oregon, and Idaho comes into Vancouver's port by rail and the tracks have a lot of spillage that brings in the pigeons. I never thought of those gatherings as a photo subject prior to your offerings here.....

Great Idea and great photography too. I must admit your safari birds are as colorless as my winter resident birds. The further south you go from Northern North America to the tropics the more colorful the birds.

This is a great way to keep yourself busy during the winter Trent. I like these, and who knew those pigeons would be so photogenic?
