Ullswater rain and sunshine

From earlier in the week. Changeable weather sums it up owever we now have a week of almost constant rain forecast with warm and very moist winds coming up from the South West. The leaves may be gone before we get any light. Ken
This is a cropped version of an image posted in the landscape forum and shows the Lake in benign mood.

This is 30 minutes earlier with heavy rain blowing up the Lake and the "pleasure" steamer passing between the islands.

Both of these are pretty cool but I am particularly drawn to the second image with the visible passing showers adding a sense of depth to the scene. Interesting to see the ferry (?) plying the waters here.

Thanks Alan, it is a pleasure steamer that circumnavigates the Lake stopping at various locations. I use it to give me a 1 way walk. Ferry out and walk the 6 miles back. 1 side of this lake has no road so the walk is very peaceful. It is raining in the first image and the sun is illuminating the rain giving the seperation between the dark island and the usually dark but now light background. Ken

That's such a cool lake! I really like these, especially #2 as that's quite the storm. Having a ferry to take you to various parts of the lake is super cool and sounds like fun.

Very cool shots - love the sunlit rain in the second. How do you keep your camera, and esp. the lens dry in these conditions? I've been using a light hiking umbrella lately.

Jim I usually bring an umbrella but forgot this day. The rain came in bursts and I just put the camera away when it hit and then brought it back out. Our forecast for tomorrow is for 10" of rain so I won't be going out as we will have floods. I live up a hill so will be OK. Ken

My solution for rainy days in the forests is a rain cover from Thank Tank. I also have one I bought years ago from Kata Bags that is now sold under the Manfrotto brand. Both will protect your camera even in hard rain. The one from Manfrotto is better to keep shooting in the wet although nothing will help you if the wind is blowing the rain sideways.

We have just had todays rainfall totals 7" tomorrow's is forecast at 10". Flood warnings everywhere. I do have cheap Optec rainsleeves that keep the worst off but, with this amount of rain coupled with wind, photography is off the agenda for a couple of days. I am off to build an arc. Ken

Those are some seriously impressive rainfall totals - once the wind starts blowing with that kind of rain all bets are off.
