Thursday’s Task

I had to do some digging to find cacti as I haven't made them a subject in my photography for quite some time now. I used to go down to the Phoenix area regularly when my parents were still around but that was back before I moved over to digital cameras.

A scene from the Superstitions in the early 1970's:

Alan, thank you for posting these beautiful cacti landscapes—though requiring some “digging.” I especially love the second image, in Carefree, AZ—my favorite. Very nice. I also love the composition of the Canyon de los Muerto, another favorite. The Superstitions image is a beautiful capture too—I like the rocky vertical composition interspersed with cacti. Nice. Thanks for searching and posting these very nice images Alan.

Kyle, thank you so much for your Task images—both are gorgeous (as usual). I love both compositions and the times of day each were captured. I love the warm sunlight on the saguaros and the rocky mountains beyond. Very nice. The Joshua Tree park image is especially well captured for the composition and the beautiful light illuminating the cholla. Gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing these images Kyle.

Both image were taken from the hotel patio where we were staying.

Larry, two beautiful cactus landscapes you’ve shared—and happy these views were nearby as well! (The hotel should use these for their ads.) I love the first image’s composition’s perspective—very nice and colorful too! I love your second image too—again nice composition. The blue and orange layers of the hills, mountains, and sky beyond the cactus field are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

In the southern part of Saskatchewan there is a large National Park called Grasslands National Park. It is an awe inspiring place and the only cactus that grows is the Prickly Pear and it is close to the ground. Much of the beauty is close to the ground so these are more close up but I guess they are still in the landscape.

Trent, thank you for sharing these gorgeous prickly pear cactus images. I love the beauty revealed in the closer perspective of the blossoms. The first and third images are my favorites—and thank you for sharing each of these captures.

I realized I have very few cactus images, which tells me I need to keep my eyes more open. A lot of yuccas, but they're not cactus....

Craig, three beautiful cactus compositions you’ve shared.Thank you! “The Big and the Small” is a particularly nice composition with beautiful warm colors. Nice! “Defending One’s Turf” is a splendid composition and my favorite of the three. Love the reds and blues color palette and especially the lower camera viewpoint. Very nice! “A Utah Bouquet” is also a perfect composition with the detailed cactus with blossoms set amongst the starkly different rocks beyond. Very nice. Again thank you for sharing,
