Thunder Island at Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge. This is actually a man made island that was created to raise boats above the waterfalls that spanned the width of the Columbia River before the Bonneville Dam was built downstream from here and raised the water level by 70 feet.

Ruby Beach view of sea stacks and way off in the distance is Destruction Island and the Destruction Island Lighthouse.

This is Tillamook Rock with its lighthouse that was nicknamed Terrible Tilly. Manning this lighthouse was a pretty desolate task.

I like the Terrible Tilly shot - that place in a storm is what nightmares are made of!
I almost find it hard to imagine what it would be like to be out in that lighthouse in a nasty winter storm with waves that could easily reach the tower

Alan, as I’ve said here before, you live in a very picturesque place! Glad you’re a photographer—and a good one too! Thank you for the info for Thunder Island—very interesting. The Ruby Beach is my favorite image—beautiful! Did you move that big log to point to the horizon perfectly—or just move your tripod? 😉 I also liked the island in the Boardman Scenic Corridor. Nice! I also would agree that lighthouse duties at Terrible Tilly would be a desolate duty. Thank you for sharing!

Ken, very beautiful island imagery—I especially love the third, fourth and fifth images! (I cannot choose a favorite among them). I’m happy you shared the Scale Island once again—perfect! I also love the warm and cool colors contrast in the St. Herbert’s Island—with a perfect reflection doubling its beauty. Of course the Derwent Island image’s tones of blues, the fence guiding the eye to the island, and the tranquil atmosphere creates a memorable landscape. Thank you for sharing all of these today!
