One advantage of living fairly far North is soft light, especially in winter time when the light is soft all day.

Sep. 12:16 much further South in Corsica harsher light but it is still possible to tame the contrast

Golden hours are nice light to work with but there is still plenty to see and shoot in the middle of the day.

Love all of these Alan! It’s difficult to choose a favorite, but—Mt. St. Helens, Secret Beach, and the Columbia River Gorge are all very, very nice! And the last image, the San Rafael Swell certainly is “swell!” (Sorry, couldn’t resist!) Were all captured by drone? And, thank you for sharing them!

Ken, you certainly captured your images in beautiful light with beautiful results! Again, it’s difficult to choose favorites, but your first and last images certainly qualify. I also love the composition of the Loch Maree image! Very, very nice and thank you for sharing each of these!

Thanks John - the first three were drone captures but the San Rafael image dates back to 1977 on Kodachrome 25.

Thursday’s Task: Midday landscapes—and not apologizing for being late!

I am a vampire when it comes to midday light unless there is a high thin overcast so that the clouds act like a diffusion tent: under these conditions, flower covered fields work great, fall color works well, and Alaska in spring or fall. As a result, I don't have too many if these types of images.

Here are my best efforts for this task, John. Thanks for making me think.

Trying to get some different mid-day moods here...

1) Some nice clouds in east Glacier

2) Springtime in Livermore, CA

3) The Subway in Zion - need mid-day light to create the glow

Kyle, beautiful images you’ve shared, thank you! I love the Monument Valley composition—a well seen scene! And the Subway image certainly was aided by the midday light—and I love the glow gained from the long exposure. Very nice! The symmetry of the distant mountains in the Glacier creates a memorable composition—very nice! The Livermore pastoral image is enhanced by the inclusion of the road leading the viewer’s eye into the scene. Also love the blue-green color composition too!

Great midday photos Larry! I favor the Trail Ridge and Saguaro images as well as the strong composition of the Mt. Evans image too. Nice variety of landscapes you’ve shared—thank you for sharing each of these Larry.

Beautiful and memorable landscapes you’ve shared Jameel—thank you! Love all the reflections too, except with the frozen lake! 😊 The Colorado and Sparks Lake are my two favorites, but the Yosemite and Alaskan images are not far behind! The foreground of ice patterns in the Alaskan Lake image certainly adds visual interest—a well seen scene! All you midday captures are very, very nice—and thank you so much for sharing these!
