Thursday’s Task

As per John's request, I'm posting my supermoon shot from last night.
Not quite what I wanted, BUT I was there & did "record" it.
1st off, the road up there had a flashing sign saying the parking lot at the top was full.
Got there & a few spots were open.
The ranger said the lot would have to be cleared by 9:45. The moon rise was supposed to be 9:36
Quickly setup with my 7DMkII. I chose it for the 1.6 crop+400mm+TC for about 800mm, manual focus.
I only use this body for sports events & racing, so not as familiar with it. Especially bracketing!
So I only had it set for 3 shot bracketing. Could have used the 7 that it can do!
The result was posterization when processed. :(
On top of that on the longer exposure, the pure white moon blooms a bit.
So when blending in PS, had to do a manual re-sizing to get a match.
To clean it up, a bit more "digital art" than I like doing.
Not my best day or effort. NEXT TIME!

Enough excuses

Dan, thank you so much for adding this great shot for the “task” this week! I—and I’m sure other members—appreciate this image and your efforts in its creation.

Just back from a couple of days visiting relatives in Scotland. I went out to shoot a sunset although I didn't think that I would get anything decent as we have had blue sky days with high pressure and extreme heat for us, high 80'sF. As I was pondering leaving the hill that I was standing on and looked behind and watched the moon rising over the low hills to the South West. 400mm lens on and manual focus but could see the moon shimmering and distorting in the moving atmosphere. I am delighted that it has turned out this sharp. The other 2 images from a snowy day in the Lake district. I have posted one of them before. Ken

Ken, beautiful images all—and appreciate the backstory on your first image. Nice lens!
