I shot a lot of sunsets on the beaches at Harris Beach State Park on the Oregon coast but one evening stood head shoulders above the rest as a color show coupled with Goldilocks shooting conditions in early December of 2017. This was low tide during full moon with the low tide timed right at sunset so no leftover footprints from the day near the waters edge. Everyone had left the beach earlier so I had the place to myself with no distractions except for the seagulls and the longer I stayed out there the more interesting the colors got. This particular capture had the most compelling composition with the water, reflections, and colors. I spent over 2 cumulative months of nights at the campground in this park and never did get another sunset that quite matched these conditions.

This one from the Isle of Skye just says highland Scotland to me, water, mountains, some light but the threat of rain is there as well. It is actually easy to take, only one viewpoint, I am standing on a large flat rock just big enough for me and my tripod, move front, back or to the right and I am falling 30ft into the river. The image was taken 15 minutes before mid day so definitely not golden hour. So another plus point is the knowledge that good images can be taken at any time of the day.

A print of this image was featured in a Royal Photographic Society international print exhibition that toured galleries around Europe for a year. Getting images into prestigious exhibitions doesn't make them any better but it persuaded me that my best work was good and allowed me to treat negative comments as just other's opinions. Previously I often wondered if my work was any good and it was just me that liked it. Ken

This is the one I go with for topics like this. When we arrived at the famous diamond beach in Iceland in the middle of the night it was foggy and overcast. I was convinced I'd be limited to B&W shots of the ice. I was so focused on details like that, that I didn't notice the colors appearing along the horizon as the sun started to rise. I turned around, saw the light, and was giddy looking for ways to use it. For this one I tried capturing the color through this large piece of ice. It is my happy memory.
