The Wave (+1)

Here are a couple more angles from the Wave with Alejandro last weekend. We had great clouds on the way in, with a stormy look consistent with the rain in the forecast for later in the day. They did briefly break up just in time for the classic "Wave" shot:

I also took my turn at the small pool of water for some reflections...

Any thoughts are welcome.

I like both of these a lot. You guys definitely scored there, I sure wish I could have met you guys there but I had 5 Grandkids that just wouldn't let me go.

Your first one is really cool with the way the clouds are lit up and with that crisp blue sky poking through in it's speckled pattern. What time did you guys get out there? Did you start hiking in the dark or did you wait until sunrise?

Neat pair of shots Kyle. I do find myself wishing the stripes of the wave were just a bit more vibrant - especially in the first image.

We started the hike right at sunrise (7:30) and were somewhat annoyed because it was a really nice one and we weren't in a great spot to shoot it. Worth it though...

Thanks Alan, any specific thoughts you'd employ? I've tried not to go over the top with these because it would be so easy to do so. I'm actually happy to hear I might have shown too much restraint.

My first inclination would be to use a brush tool in Lightroom with everything set to zero except Clarity and maybe a bit of Contrast. That allows you to confine the effect and you can brush in a bit more pop to the sandstone.

OK, here's a version where I lightened the brighter stripes a little bit and added some clarity and contrast to selective portions. Thoughts?
