The terrible twos

The other day, I visited our local golf course to see the resident fox family. As usual, the kits were out having fun.


Mama and Papa fox had found a trapped gopher and began to dig, showing the babies how to hunt for food. Forever playful, the kits would dig for a few minutes, but as soon as the parents turned away, the little rascals would either run off or start wrestling with each other.


Mama fox kept chasing down the runaways, gently nipping them by the neck to bring them back. At one point, she even had to bite one of the babies on the legs to herd it home. It was almost hilarious to watch.

Thanks Alan, there are at least 3 litters now, the year before and last year this family were very active, the golfers are getting used to see them too, it's a nice little distraction.

Thank you Larry, I have added a few more pictures, the foxes come out during the early evening or dusk, because the den is on a golf course, the lighting is very soft.
