The Strolling Pond Waterfall

The Strolling Pond at the Portland Japanese Garden is one of the higher elevation water features. The pond itself flows under the Moonbridge and feeds several other water features in the overall complex. The inlet is a small set of falls that rarely gets much attention but it is worth the view. This is a shot from mid May in 2009.

Thanks Ben - not sure why this scene doesn't get more attention than it does. It can be hard to shoot in the summer when direct sunlight comes so early in the morning.

Thanks Jameel - I’m afraid such a book would be joining a large collection on the bookstore shelf. Every serious photographer in Portland has a stash just as good as mine.

A beautiful still life, a beautiful place full of greenish colors balanced by the foreground of water with a reflection of beautiful green colors - a very engaging place for reflection.

Thanks Peter - the Portland Japanese Garden is a pretty incredible place to visit with a camera. World class design and maintained by some extremely talented gardeners. Almost hard to go wrong shooting in that place.

Thanks Jim - this one had some difficult light I wasn't entirely certain I could tame but in the end it worked out better than I was expecting.

Thanks for looking Jon - this garden has been a well funded effort to make an outstanding example of a Japanese Garden in the US and they engaged some of the best garden designers in Japan for the task. It shows.
