The Shadow of the Mountain

Winter sunrises are much more interesting than what I usually see during the summer months not the least of which is the sun angle. In this case an early January sunrise with the sun coming up well south of Mt. Hood leaving me with a nice view of Mt. Hood's shadow against the rest of the sky. Single panel at 70mm with a pano crop to cut out the rooftops and houses.

Some really intense colors goin' on here.

The side opposite the sun gets a cool "black triangle" shadow because of the mountain's pointy shape!

Thanks Michael - it's fun to watch Hood's shadow shift through the winter months when we get nice conditions like this. Summer sunrises are mostly boring in comparison.
