The Pillars of Creation

Another clear night means me sleeping out under the stars next to my telescope.

Last night I decided to shoot the Pillars of Creation, also known as the Eagle Nebula, or M16. The way my backyard is situated, I only get about 3 hours of useful imaging time for this object as trees get in the way pretty quickly.

So, I shot just over 2 hours last night.

Even though this isn't the final image, I was curious to see if what I shot so far was decent or not, so I did a quick edit. This is only 67 minutes of Hydrogen-Alpha and 50 minutes of Oxygen III data. If it is clear tonight, I will shoot more Oxygen III and Sulfur II. The final image should be much better than this with some blue and more browns.

This is my first time imaging the Pillars of Creation, and I can say that I am very happy with how it is turning out.

This is awesome Andrew! I can’t even imagine how much better it could look. This is aptly named as it does look like creation!

This is just incredible - and from your backyard no less. Can't wait to see how you can improve on this. Nice work.
