I do like gardening but I dislike raising roses so one of my favorite pastimes is to wander around and appreciate Other People's Roses

This may seem a bit out of season but I shot this the week before last while walking along the sidewalk near my house. I always think of roses as an early summer plant but serious rose aficionados apparently can keep them blooming all summer and right into the fall. I like rewarding their dedication by taking pictures of the blooms as I walk past unscathed by their endless thorns.

Thanks Jim - gosh I never knew I didn't have to hug them

As a kid the two plants that I got stuck by every time I was even vaguely near them were roses and teddy bear cholla.

Thanks Jameel - in spite of being so late in the season this was one of the more visually pleasing roses I have seen this year.
