The Bathing Pool

Many British coastal towns have seaside bathing pools that are submerged twice daily by the sea's tide, providing a safe swimming space. Guernsey also has a hardened core of sea swimmers as well and I captured this group alighting off the bathing pool steps very early in the morning and swimming out into the bay.

The second image was taken much later in the morning in bright but slightly overcast light. At this time the tide was as high and the sea blended seamlessly with the top of the bathing pool. I managed to enlist the help of a young girl (with mums permission) who was playing around the pool perimeter and stood stock still for me during the 10 second exposure.

Hey Jane,

What a cool contrast between the 2 images! Wow, what a difference the tide makes. #2 is definitely in a class to itself. Very nice work, and I think having that girl in the shot adds some great interest.

The first image is a nice story teller, but the second is just fantastic. It looks like a cloud walk.

For some reason, in the first one, I kind of expected to see people in the old fashioned bathing costumes (have no idea why). the 2nd is excellent and otherworldly! Have you tried it in monochrome? It almost is as it is.
