Sunset at Sentinel Dome

I shot this during the spring a few years ago - still the most memorable sunset I've had in Yosemite. The forecast was for clear skies and my intention was to do some astrophotography. I wasn't the least bit disappointed to be greeted by great clouds and a wonderful sunset. Everyone else bailed out before the light got good and I had Sentinel Dome to myself. Of course, it did start raining soon afterwards...

Any thoughts are always welcome.

It is just an epic image. I know it's sunset, but it reminds me of cold camping nights in which I cannot sleep and the joy that first light brings and the thought of warmth.

Hey Kyle,

How totally awesome! I too thought at first glance this was a fall shot, until my brain kicked in and I realized that there are no trees turning fall color up on Sentinal Dome except for maybe some brush.

Well done here.

Beautiful colours here, Kyle. I really like the way the light on the dome is picked up by various touches throughout the photograph. It is the sort of detail that gives body to the piece once you have reacted to the foreground colour in the trees. Very nicely done!
