On the way back from Hanksville, I stopped at goblins valley for a sunrise. This is a fun place esp. for kids to wander around and experience it. Quite a different story getting interesting compositions.

A couple of images from that trip.

Goblin Valley is a really interesting place but your observation about the ease of finding easy compositions is spot on. Its a good place for small scenes if you are willing to wander around and find them. I like your set from there.

Love the color in #1, but my favorite is #3.

As usual it seems I am the oddball because I have found Goblin Valley to be overflowing with awesome compositions, and for me they are not difficult to find as they are as numerous as the Goblins. So it's interesting to me, that Ben, Rick, Alan and now you also found it hard to find compelling compositions with the Goblins. I must be more oddball then I knew. :)

Good set Jameel, and you are right, I find it very hard to get good comps here, at least you had good light and a good sky for this.

Thanks Alan. I am sure there are interesting small scenes to wander around the valley. Once the sun rose (it was a short window of nice light), it was overcast and quite windy and the light wasn't compelling enough to go look for these small scenes. Had to pack and leave.

Thanks Jim. I won't go so far as an oddball. I am sure one can find nice compositions. It isn't easy to find however. Given the weather conditions it wasn't appealing to wander among the goblins looking for them.

Thanks Ben.

There is a smaller section before you get to the parking lot overlooking the main valley. It lends itself to interesting compositions, given decent light. These are from a different trip.

My overall impression of the place is monotone.

Very nice set Jameel; nice color in #1; good use of the interruption in #2, and the volume in #3.

I've found in general the same thing as the comments: Sometimes the formations flow nicely into a composition; but sometimes not. They are a bit of a challenge. But every once in a while, I think it's good that we sometimes have to scramble.
