Steampunk meets Death Valley

Beatty, Nevada has long been the eastern gateway town to many Death Valley visits. The motels there are way more affordable than anything in the park. And the few restaurant choices are good enough to grab a bite before heading into a National Park concessionaire's realm. But now the town is headed upscale - in a steampunk kinda way. The Exchange Club & Casino has been there quite a while, but now it's undergoing a massive re-design and it's looking pretty awesome! The exterior decor is great if you appreciate metal, rust, and art. I cannot wait to see the interior - maybe it'll be ready by this fall, when I'll next be passing through.

That's super cool! I really enjoy this kind of artwork.

I have never stopped at the casino, I think I might have to next time I go through there.

Interesting stuff for photographers. I like your captures of the metal art.

I have stayed in Beatty many years ago whilst making runs into the park and it wasn't much to look at back then. Restaurants meant winding paths through thick smoke filled casinos to get to eating areas. Nicer offerings would be quite welcome.

I know exactly what building this is and it’s indeed flashy. However, the resident burros wandering the streets stopping traffic and begging for treats will always be Beatty’s draw for me.
